BAMBOO SCREEN’S

This was for the cow shed at Kalasan Nursery Farm we had to develop some partition element.

It has to be easy to build and light in structure. It should allow light and wind to come in. The final outcome was quite juxtaposition to the actual work as timber is used but in contradiction bamboo jumps in it and try to maintain its character and does well.

Have a look for some more photos and the process of work shown in timelapse videos here.
The PDF report of the work done can be viewed here.

BRIEF OF WORK

At KNF at their cowshed on the front facade we needed to cover it so the doors of the cows can be hidden and completes the whole farm stay .

Different phases of work:
  1. Concept of work
  2. Design of work to happen
  3. Site sketches
  4. Material exploration
  5. Final outcome

CONCEPT OF WORK

  • To make work more interactive with people involved in the exercise.
  • How to incorporate unused things in surrounding into the exercise.
  • What can be alternate materials for the work.

DESIGN OF WORK TO HAPPEN

  • Sketches were developed at site.
  • Material available was explored.
  • Hands on work

MATERIAL EXPLORATION

  • Bamboo sticks which were used as support in the farm.
  • MS box section were obtained from an old greenhouse frame material.

FINAL OUTCOME

  • We made a frame out of the old greenhouse frame material.
  • Frame was then cleared (scrubbed well)and then painted.
  • And for the infill we got bamboo poles from a local bamboo craftsmen and have also used the splits which we got from the farm.
  • We have split the poles and have tightened them onto the frame with binding wire.
  • The light and wind is penetrable through the frame.
