A FARMER'S CENTER IN UTTARAKHAND

When you connect to farmers you encourage them to practice Organic farming(which empowers them and connects to the market) and for that you need a space to organize interactive activities. We are motivating farmers in Uttarakhand by doing such a work in Village Kaloon in District Pauri.

We are developing an old house to a farmer’s Center where all the activities can happen smoothly. And it is always more sustainable to use an old building rather then constructing a new one(which will consume so much energy and doing it will not be very organic)

This old structure belongs to the family which is not staying in the village and living somewhere in Delhi.

Generally in the farmers center’s there is required to have space for meeting’s, for the office work computer lab(which is additional)later when the SHG starts supplying their produces to the market they can learn all the skills of keeping the records for the supply’s,sale’s and accounts easily, seeds bank(where the native and saved seeds can be stored), a small library, and an home stay(where they can host guests with the SHG).

We did develop some layout for the activities and all other modifications that we will need to do in the old structure.Which can be viewed here. The stone masonry done at the village is very fine whose style of building is very unique. We will be documenting it under Ek Pehal initiative of the trust and many more design element used by the villagers in shapin .

More insights to the detailed progress and the work happening at site will be shared soon here.
